Frequently Asked Question

How do I know if I really need to go to counseling?

First assess how long you have been struggling with your particular issues and try to gauge how successful you have been handling alone. Counseling is designed to be one tool to help you identify and resolve the challenges you are facing. Counseling sessions are a dedicated hour with a professional focusing on problematic life issues with a goal of resolution. Seeking help from a professional when you are struggling is smart self-care, not weakness.

Can a marriage survive if one of us is or has had an extramarital affair?

Fee for service means you pay the full fee for service when services are rendered with cash, Master Card, Visa, Discover or flex spending or prepaid medical cards. We give you a receipt for your services and you file with your insurance carrier and they reimburse you directly for what services are covered under your medical plan.

Is Bio/Neurofeedback covered by insurance?

Some medical and psychological insurance plans now cover neurofeedback and/or biofeedback for certain conditions. Reimbursement to the client will vary depending on the client’s carrier and plan. We recommend calling the insurance company and asking them about coverage for specific CPT codes (use this form for reference). If the insurance company says that Neurofeedback or Biofeedback is covered, please get a reference number for the call, the name of the representative you spoke with, and the date and time of the call. If there is any discrepancy in reimbursement, you can use the reference number to substantiate your claim. We have provided a list of questions that should be discussed that you can review here.

Does Heritage accept insurance?

Heritage Counseling & Consulting does not accept insurance because we have found that managed care insurance plans often dictate and limit the care we can provide to our clients. Even though we don’t accept insurance, we provide our clients with a “Superbill” that can be submitted to insurance by the client for reimbursement. Reimbursement to the client varies by carrier and by plan. Please check with your insurance company about coverage. If you have any questions about submitting to insurance, please call our Office - (214) 363-2345 Ext. 4.

Does Heritage help verify insurance benefits and help with insurance denials?

When you call to become a new patient, our intake coordinators are happy to verify your insurance benefits for you. Additionally, with the client’s consent, if you receive any denials from your insurance, we are happy to appeal them. If you have any questions regarding insurance, please call our office - (214) 363-2345 Ext 4.

What are ‘Superbills’ and how do you submit them to insurance for potential reimbursement?

Superbills are the document(s) that the client submits to insurance for reimbursement. The superbills have all the required information for an insurance company to process a claim.

Superbills are published on the 1st of every month for the previous month's sessions.

A client can access their superbills at any time through the secure client portal. In order to access the portal, a client will need to go to our website, select the patient portal, enter their email address and an email with the link for the portal will be sent to the email address entered. Once the client uses the link to access the portal, they will click on the billing & payments tab, then select the insurance reimbursement statements to access the superbills. These superbills will be listed by month.

If your insurance card has a claim address on the back, you can print off the superbill and mail it to that address for your insurance to process the claim. Depending on your insurance plan, you can upload the claim electronically and submit it to your insurance portal or send it via email.

Once the insurance processes your claim and if you are eligible for reimbursement, the insurance payer will send a check directly to you.
