 Self esteem

Where does low self-esteem come from? Why can’t we all tackle our daily lives from a position of confidence, security, and connectedness to others. There are so many reasons one may experience low self-esteem, some situational, like the loss of a job or the end of a relationship, and others more deep-seated in our personal history, like having been bullied as a child or having experienced challenges that others seemed not to face, like a serious childhood illness, poverty, or an unstable home life. What we do know is that many, many people move through their day experiencing themselves as not good enough and unable to find a voice the can be heard among the clamor of all those who feel comfortable seizing their rightful attention. In therapy, we will work to restore—or create for the first time—that sense of a worthy self that we all deserve to feel. This is hard work! It isn’t easy to change the long-held thought patterns and images in our heads that tell us we don’t measure up…but it can be done, and life will feel much better for having seized the chance to make a change.
