Distressing memories or feelings that arise after a traumatic or especially painful event or time in life can disrupt day to day life, impact relationships, and hold people back from achieving their goals. Common symptoms of unresolved trauma include difficulty sleeping, feeling numb, increased agitation or irritability, addictive behaviors, difficulty managing day to day responsibilities, difficulty in relationships, nightmares, self- harm or thoughts of suicide, and feelings of being undervalued.
Trauma focused therapy interventions such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT) are often recognized as the most effective treatments for trauma and can help children, adolescents, and adults heal from past hurts and experiences and move forward into a more fulfilled life. Trauma therapy is not designed to help client’s forget painful memories, rather support them in finding ways to heal and move forward.
