We all play a unique role in our family’s dynamics: perhaps you have felt the pressures of perfection that first-born children often encounter; or maybe you are stuck as “the baby of the family”; maybe you can’t help noticing that your husband or wife always sides with one child over another. Patterns become deeply-entrenched—so much so that after a time, we cannot always see them. Examining the patterns of conflict and dysfunction in one’s immediate family is the first step in reclaiming harmony with and even enjoyment of each other.
