Dr. Katherine Day Mitchell, M.D., is a board-certified psychiatrist by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN), specializing in the treatment of adult patients, aged 18 and older, in outpatient settings.

Dr. Mitchell completed her undergraduate studies at Trinity University in San Antonio, TX, where she served as a teaching assistant and tutor in the Biology department. Prior to entering medical school, she dedicated significant time to volunteer work, including meaningful experiences at Heart House Dallas and the Emergency Department at Parkland Hospital—both of which helped shape her commitment to community care.

She earned her medical degree from The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston, TX. While at UTMB, she was selected by faculty to serve as a medical student representative on the Dell Medical School Planning Committee, reflecting her leadership and commitment to the advancement of medical education.

Dr. Mitchell returned to San Antonio to complete her residency in Psychiatry at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA). Her residency training included comprehensive experience in medication management across adult, geriatric, child, and adolescent populations in a variety of clinical settings—including outpatient clinics, inpatient units, and consult-liaison services. Her primary training sites included University Health System, South Texas Veterans Health Care System, San Antonio Military Medical Center, the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) Counseling Center, and Clarity Child Guidance Center. During her residency, she frequently presented at learning conferences for medical students and peers and was honored to be selected as a Group Leader for the department’s annual residency improvement retreat.

Following residency, Dr. Mitchell has continued to focus on general adult outpatient psychiatry. She practices with a biopsychosocial model of care, integrating medical, psychological, and social considerations to support the holistic well-being of her patients.

A native of Dallas, TX, Dr. Mitchell is pleased to be practicing in her hometown. Outside of her clinical work, she enjoys traveling, staying active, reading, painting, and spending quality time with her friends and family.
